Central Foundation Girls' School

Welcome

We are delighted to welcome you to this new dedicated staff recruitment website. We hope it gives you an insight into Central Foundation Girls’ School, our aspirations for the future and, most importantly, how we will make our ambition of becoming an outstanding school, a reality.

Our motto is ‘educating tomorrow’s women’. We aim to ensure that every student reaches the highest standard of achievement, both social and academic, of which she is capable, so that she leaves school well qualified, confident and prepared for her future.

Central Foundation Girls' School is an exciting place to work and learn. It is a large, oversubscribed and inclusive 11-19 inner-city girls' school in Bow, London. It has an excellent reputation both locally and nationally.

Ofsted

Ofsted has praised us for inclusion, for our diverse curriculum and for students’ good behaviour. In our most recent inspection report, community cohesion at CFGS and our students’ contribution to the school and community were graded as ‘outstanding’.

Pupil Performance

In 2009 our GCSE exam results including English and Maths increased by a full 10% on the previous year’s results. Across the subjects, 65% of our girls achieved A*-C at GCSE: another huge leap. Our exam results are continually improving, with several subjects achieving over 80% A* to C grades. Achievement in vocational qualifications in 2009 was impressive, too, with all the students achieving distinctions and merits. At A Level and post-16 we are in the top 15% of schools for value added. Over 60% of our girls tend to stay on in the sixth form, and over 70% go on to university.

Performing Arts Specialist School

As a Performing Arts Status School, Drama is a highly respected and valued subject within the Curriculum. As well as being taught as a separate subject, Drama also has an impact across the whole school community through cross curricular links; it reaches out into the wider community through a variety of projects and allows student’s access to industry professionals both inside and outside the school environment.

We have also now developed a second specialism, which we call ‘Voice’. This draws together a whole school focus on communication, empowerment and democracy through the subject areas of English and Citizenship. It means we are all working together to educate tomorrow’s women, enabling our students to achieve academic excellence and self fulfilment. We aim to promote their development as leaders, champions of environmental sustainability and active citizens.

Training School Status

Central Foundation Girls' School is proud of its Training School status. We are an innovating and exciting place to be. We strive to enable the whole school community to achieve excellence, both personally and professionally, by delivering effective and interactive training which meets the needs of individuals and the school as a whole. Our aim is to continually improve the learning experiences for students in order for them to excel.

Central Foundation achieved Training School status in 2003 in recognition of the high quality training and development provided for the whole school workforce. Since then, we have developed a range of innovative projects which have been adopted by a large number of schools in Tower Hamlets and beyond. We have a dedicated Professional Development Team, who lead the wide range of opportunities on offer at the school.
