King's Norton Boys' School

Welcome

We are delighted to welcome you to this dedicated staff recruitment website. We hope it gives you an insight into King’s Norton Boys’ School, our aspirations for the future and, most importantly, how we will make our ambition of becoming an outstanding school, a reality.

The School

King’s Norton Boys’ is a successful, popular and oversubscribed comprehensive school in one of the leafier suburbs in the south of the city. 750 boys attend the school with approximately 140 in the sixth form. The sixth form is shared with the neighbouring girls’ school, bringing the total number to around 350 and considerably extending the range of subjects available to both male and female students.

Ofsted

Ofsted visited in October 2008 and reported that behaviour was good, bullying was rare, that students feel safe and well cared for and that they are happy to come to school. The latest data shows that our GCSE results are significantly above both the Birmingham and national averages and the A level results put us amongst the best in the city.

Extra-curricular

While academic success is of paramount importance, we are proud of the opportunities we offer our students, many of which are not available at other schools. King’s Norton Boys’ has an excellent record and well-deserved reputation for the sporting and recreational opportunities offered to the boys. We are one of the few schools that has a dedicated outdoor pursuits department with its own sailing dinghies, canoes, mountain bikes, etc, and the qualified staff to teach boys how to use them. Recognised as a ‘Leading Department’, the PE staff offer an unusually wide and extensive variety of sports and activities, from the traditional football and rugby to the less usual orienteering and indoor rowing.

The arts are equally respected and successful with a thriving art department producing work and examination results of an exceptional standard and music offering students a range of experiences from jazz through classical to rock and regular performance opportunities for all.

Specialist Science Status

The school has an enviable reputation for preparing students for university and higher education entrance but is equally highly regarded by employers and trainers who recognise the qualities developed in all of our students.

We were designated as a specialist science school in September 2004 which brought with it the opportunity to further develop the school in terms of staffing, technology and delivery.

Centenary

Approaching our centenary, we offer what we believe to be the best balance between traditional values and modern Teaching and Learning methodology to give our students every opportunity for achieving both personal and academic success.
